Custom Swimming Pools

The word custom has a way of making people feel like it costs more - but in reality it just means you get something that's tailor-made to fit your environment. It allows for flexibility when trying to stay within budgets, size constraints, and architectural concerns. We build pools for our customers as though we're building them for ourselves, so you'll be treated like one of the family. We know you want to be proud of your pool, but we want you to know that we want to be proud of it as well. Our pools have been featured in local and national magazines like Architectural Digest, Southern Accents, Landscape Architecture, At Home In Arkansas, SB Magazine, and Luxury Pools. We'd like to have your pool as one of our features - regardless of your budget.

Meeting with a Design Consultant

You've decided it is time to put a pool in and we couldn't be happier! Either call in to Morehead Pools in Shreveport (318) 865-1427 or Little Rock (501) 868-SWIM (7946) and set up an appointment with one of our friendly Water Shapers. We'll take a little preliminary information over the phone to make sure we're able to meet your needs in every way, and schedule a meeting at your location to measure and take dimensions so that our quoted price isn't something made up out of thin air, or drawn on a napkin.

Don't want to call in and would rather meet in person? We would love to see you at any of our locations and show you around our wonderful showrooms, giving you a look at past projects, design possibilities and materials options. Just come in - no appointment is necessary. We're open throughout the week, and even on Saturdays during the prime swimming season (May through September), and will have a design consultant in-house that would be happy to meet with you on the spot.

Do you know one of our Water Shapers personally, or did someone refer you to someone specific? GREAT! Just let us know when you call or come in, and we'll make sure you meet with that designer. Also, be sure and let us know who it was that referred you - we'll make sure they get a token of our gratitude for the referral.

Measurements, Wants and Dreams

The first step for both of us if for you to tell us what you dream of in your yard - our ultimate goal is to create for you a fantasy backyard that you will enjoy forever. However, we know it's hard to visualize exactly what will fit in your yard, and what will actually complement the architecture of your home. Our award-winning Water Shapers take the guesswork out for you by taking measurements of your property and recommending pools and spas that work within the space, giving you optimal use of both wet and dry deck areas for you to enjoy.

Once the measurements are done, our designers transpose that information into state-of-the-art 3D visualization software to show not only the pool that you've discussed, but put it in the context of your home and yard so there's no surprises.

Formal Presentation of Proposal

Once the design work is done by our Water Shapers, you'll be invited either to our offices or in your own home (depending on what's better for you) to view the proposed layout. Our designers can show you in the virtual 3D environment what each aspect of the proposal offers. We'll show you what you'll see from inside your home, standing on the patio, and even what you'll see when you're swimming in the pool itself. We'll give you a look at both daytime and nighttime conditions, so you have a good idea what the lighting effects in your pool will offer when the sun goes down.

Contract

Don't be scared - this is just the formal time we put the final build price on paper, and spell out in no uncertain terms what we're all agreeing to.

Job Setup/Layout/Permit

Before we can move forward, we have some preliminary site work to do. Permits need to be procured, ONE CALL underground utility locations have to be done, and some initial pre-dig construction meetings for us with our staff. We take care of all of that - no need to worry. Next your design consultant will lay your pool out in your backyard following the specifics of the plans, and paint out the proposed pool shape in your yard before a shovel ever hits the ground. Once you've signed off on that layout, excavation and forming begins.

Excavation

While we need you to sign off on the layout, you don't need to be present for the dig, however you're welcome to watch if you'd like. The kids especially enjoy this step, as major changes take place to your yard in a very short period of time. We plan at the beginning of the job that we're hauling the dirt away, unless we need it on the job site for topographical reasons. Do you want to keep it on the property and have us put it somewhere specific? No problem - just let us know where you want it. Typically this is where your first construction payment is made.

One more thing here - at this stage you'll meet our Stage 1 Construction Supervisor, Justin. And to ensure you can always find him, you'll get his direct cell phone number.

Plumbing

Following excavation, our plumbers begin laying Schedule 40 PVC plumbing - we don't use flex pipe as it tends to degrade over time and cause problems down the road. We don't like problems, and we're quite certain you don't either.

Steel

We use #3 rebar reinforcement for our floors and walls, and #4 rebar reinforcement for the pool beam (top of the concrete wall). You won't find wire mesh in our pools - only hand-laid, custom engineered steel rebar. It's this rebar that gives our pools the strength to last a lifetime.

Gunite

Not just a fancy word for concrete, our pools are made with 7-sack mix shotcrete/gunite construction that's literally mixed on site and blown into place ensuring the precise makeup we need to give your pool the strength it requires. Typically your second construction payment is made at this time.

Tile & Coping

By now you've picked out the final look of your pool, so our tile and stone surgeons go to work. Your tile and stone is laid with precision, taking care so that the final project is nothing short of perfection. Stone is chosen for color and shape so every piece looks like it should be exactly where it is, instead of it being just the next rock off the stack. Typically this is time your third construction payment is due.

Electrical

Whether you've provided your own Master Electrician, or contracted for us to bring one in, things are ready at this point for the electrical services to get wired up.

Decks

Decks will be formed and poured, tying the whole job together. Concrete will be laid in, and whatever final finish your decking will receive will be applied at this time.

At this point you're done with major construction on the pool itself, so you've moved to stage 2 of construction. We already know you've enjoyed having Justin around ensuring it all goes according to plan, but at this point you're moving on. Enter Sylvester - our Stage 2 Construction Manager. And sure enough, you'll get his direct phone number as well.

Plaster

The final step - congratulations, you've made it! Whatever plaster finish you decided on with your designer will be applied at this point, giving the inside of your pool the luster you're after. Since this signals the end of construction, your final payment on the pool is due at this time.

Startup

We could just walk away and say “there you go - have fun with it” but that seems a more than just a bit wrong to us. Instead, we'll give you a pool school on how to operate all your equipment, check your water chemistry and keep your pool in tip-top shape. And distance permitting, we'll typically take care of your pool on our standard cleaning contract for the first three months at no charge. Hey - it's the least we can do. We know if you see how low maintenance a pool can be, you'll keep coming back to us. And we want to see you again as often as we can.
