Pool Services in Little Rock, Shreveport & Bossier City
Choosing the right sanitization system for your new pool is one of the most important steps in the pool building process. While each one has its own benefits, there is no single best system, and that’s why Morehead Pools offers chlorine, salt chlorine generator and ultraviolet water sanitization systems. At Morehead Pools, we’re dedicated to ensuring your pool runs effectively and efficiently on a daily basis, and we will work with you to make the most informed decision regarding the sanitization system that will work best for you and your pool. Please take a few minutes to read through the three sanitization options to learn more about their benefits.
Chlorine is traditionally the most commonly used pool sanitizer. Chlorine kills bacteria by breaking down into hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ions, oxidizing bacteria until destroyed. It is available in three forms (gas, liquid or solid) and has a long half-life, making it able to be stored for long periods of time. Chlorine also has a residual effect, not only neutralizing contaminants when first added to the pool water, but also neutralizing it long afterward.
The disadvantages of chlorine are few – chloramines and trihalomethanes, chlorine byproducts, can cause skin and eye irritation. Chlorine also dissipates very quickly, requiring pool water to be regularly tested and maintained.
Salt Chlorine Generator Systems
Salt chlorine generators use electrolysis to create hypochlorous acid from salt and water. Once the hypochlorous acid sanitizes the pool water, it reverts back to salt and then the process repeats itself. Salt chlorine generators create superchlorinated water that helps combat the buildup of chloramines. Salt chlorine also produces nearly neutral pH levels, requiring fewer additional chemicals to balance pH levels.
Salt chorine generators have a higher price tag than traditional chlorine, and the salt cells must be replaced once every three to five years. Excessive salt concentration can also cause corrosion, which can possibly affect the pool equipment and decking.
UV Water Sanitizers
Morehead Pools now offers UV water sanitizer systems from Paramount. These systems provide an extra layer of protection beyond the capability of chlorine or salt base chlorine generators. As soon as water circulates through the UV chamber, the UV light immediately destroys micro-organisms an algae resistant to chlorine. The UV system reduces chemical demand by up to 50 percent, as well as reduces eye and skin irritants.
